Bit-Error-Rate Characterization of Silicon Four-Wave- Mixing Wavelength Converters at 10 and 40 Gb/s

چکیده
We present the first bit-error-rate characterization of silicon four-wave-mixing wavelength converters. Power penalties below 0.5 dB are demonstrated over a 20-nm EDFA-limited wavelength range at 10 Gb/s, while 40-Gb/s measurements yield a 2.4-dB power penalty. ©2008 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (130.7405) Wavelength conversion devices; (190.4380) Nonlinear optics, four-wave mixing

Silicon photonic parametric optical processing for ultra-high bandwidth on-chip signal grooming
We show wavelength conversion and wavelength multicasting using four-wave mixing in silicon waveguides, achieving record performance in both bandwidth and bit rates in this CMOS-compatible platform. Non-return-to-zero data at 10and 40-Gb/s bit rates is wavelength converted across nearly 50 nm, with error-free transmission. Bit-rate transparency of the all-optical process is demonstrated by conv...

متن کاملWavelength conversion of 28 GBaud 16-QAM signals based on four-wave mixing in a silicon nanowire.
We demonstrate error-free wavelength conversion of 28 GBaud 16-QAM single polarization (112 Gb/s) signals based on four-wave mixing in a dispersion engineered silicon nanowire (SNW). Wavelength conversion covering the entire C-band is achieved using a single pump. We characterize the performance of the wavelength converter subsystem through the electrical signal to noise ratio penalty as well a...

We experimentally demonstrate four-wave-mixing (FWM)-based continuous wavelength conversion of optical differential-phase-shift-keyed (DPSK) signals with large wavelength conversion ranges as well as simultaneous wavelength conversion of dual-wavelength channels with mixed modulation formats in 1.1-cm-long dispersion-engineered silicon waveguides. We first validate up to 100-nm wavelength conve...
متن کاملDemonstration of wavelength conversion at 40 Gb/s data rate in silicon waveguides.
We report an efficient wavelength conversion via four-wave-mixing in reverse biased silicon-on-isolator p-i-n rib waveguides and demonstrate, for the first time, the conversion of a high-speed optical pseudo-random bit sequence data at 40 Gb/s. Results give a wavelength conversion efficiency of -8.6dB using a 8cm long waveguide with clear open eye on the wavelength converted signal . Conversion...
